When considering medical weight loss programs people usually have a number of questions.

At Ideal Physician Weight Loss, we are committed to helping you achieve your weight loss goal and are ready to answer all of the questions that you have about our program.

Below you will find a few of the most frequent questions that prospective patients ask. If you have any other questions that you would like to discuss please contact us.

How is Ideal Physician Weight Loss different from the other weight loss clinics in the area?

Ideal Physician Weight Loss is the only weight loss center in the area that is privately owned and operated by physicians trained in Bariatric Medicine and Surgery. Unlike larger or national clinics where you are just a number, we provide comprehensive personalized attention to a select few every year.

Ideal Physician Weight Loss services provide comprehensive treatment options including high quality protein meal plans to promote the body’s ability to maintain muscle mass during the weight loss process. Our meal plans are supplemented with electrolytes, minerals and vitamins. Because the meal plans are nutritionally sound, and because you are carefully monitored during the weight loss phase, we can put you on a diet that is much lower in calories than is possible in a non-medical setting. This means faster, safer weight loss in a carefully monitored environment.

Our medical weight loss programs include FDA approved medications, Medical Grade HCG and Vitamin Injections These can also be prescribed as part of the Ideal Physician Weight Loss Method or your own customized diet and exercise plan.  Regardless of the plan we choose, your monitoring avoids some of the issues encountered in non-medical programs where patients on very low-calorie diets are at risk for developing electrolyte imbalances and potential heart problems.

Ideal Physician Weight Loss is able to provide functional assessment and exercise plans, as well as, certified fitness training located at our facility. Our Behavioral Psychologists are trained in weight management behavior modification.

Conveniently located at Paradise Valley Medical Plaza serving North Phoenix and Scottsdale. Our staff and physicians are dedicated to helping people achieve safe, effective and permanent weight loss. A physician supervised medical weight loss program is the safest and wisest way to lose weight and maintain the loss. Our nutritional products and strategies are available only to medical doctors, results that no commercial program can obtain.

How much does your program cost?

We are a small, privately owned clinic. We use innovative health information technology to provide efficient, cost-effective, patient centered-care, which makes it possible for us to keep our prices reasonable. Each patient has their own weight loss needs, so it would be impossible to quote you a price without knowing which program we choose for you. However you may visit our online shop to get a cost estimate of our products and services.

We offer a free informational appointment, free consultation and follow-up so that you have an opportunity to learn about our program and decide if it meets your needs. Because we are committed to your success, we will evaluate you before you enter our programs so that we can make sure you are a good fit for us as well.

Does my insurance cover weight loss treatment?

Unfortunately, insurance companies are not very good about covering obesity treatment. Because we are physician directed, we do have the ability to give you an order form which you can submit to your insurance company for some of the charges we believe might be covered for example labs.

If you have medical conditions such as high cholesterol, diabetes or high blood pressure then you are much more likely to be reimbursed by your insurance company for our services. Whether or not you are covered, you are responsible for paying all of your fees. There is a tax credit that you can claim for treatment, and flexible spending or health savings accounts are another option. As a medical clinic, we are able to give you a letter of medical necessity that you can submit to your flex plan or health savings account administrator for reimbursement.

Do I have to pay for your whole program upfront?

We offer à la carte services, which are payable at the time of service:

If you put me on a low calorie diet, will I feel hungry?

Interestingly, many overweight people are constantly hungry even when they are overeating because they are not getting the right nutrients. Too many carbohydrates from sugars and starches in the diet can cause fluctuations in blood sugar, making you feel hungry even though you have excess fuel in your fat stores.

The meal plans that we use are high in protein and low in carbohydrates so that you actually learn to use body fat for fuel. Using body fat for fuel keeps you from being hungry while you lose weight because you don’t have the large fluctuations in blood sugar. The broken down body fat also has an effect on the brain which causes decreased hunger.

You may feel a little hungry at first while your body transitions from using food to burning body fat as its major fuel source, but eventually you will be surprised by how much your hunger signals decrease.

We have a number of tools at our disposal, which are not available to do-it-your selfer’s or with commercial products and services, to help curb your appetite and boost energy.  We only use FDA approved weight loss medications and Vitamin injections to boost energy and stimulate fat burning.

Why can I lose a little weight on some diets but then I plateau and eventually gain the weight back?

Many diets are too low in protein, and the weight that you lose is from muscle loss. If you lose your muscle mass, then you compromise your metabolism and eventually you will not burn enough calories to continue to lose weight. When you go off of your diet, your body naturally wants to restore the lost muscle, and it adds on a little fat as insurance for the next time that you try to lose weight. At Ideal Physician Weight Loss, we make sure that you are eating adequate amounts of protein while you are losing weight to prevent this from happening. With our bioimpedance testing, we can tell whether or not you have adequate muscle mass. This helps us to understand your nutritional needs, and it also helps to guide your exercise plan.

Do I Need a Prescription Weight Loss Drug?

Using prescription weight loss drugs to treat obesity should be used as an option for the following individuals:

  • People with a body mass index(BMI) of 30 and above with no obesity-related conditions.
  • A person with a BMI of 27 and above with obesity-related conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

Am I a Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery?

Weight Loss Surgery to treat obesity should be used as an option for the following individuals:

  • People with a body mass index(BMI) of 35 and above with no obesity-related conditions.
  • A person with a BMI of 30 and above with obesity-related conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

Do Lipotropic Injections Really Work?

Medical Grade HCG program works well in patients who are not candidates for prescription medications.  This is often combined with a Low Calorie Protein Sparing Diet and Lipotropic agents.

While it cannot be guaranteed whether lipotropic injections will work for you or not, the results have seemed to show that it is a very effective product for most. People may lose 4-7lbs per week. Not only does it stimulate fat burning but is a great energy source for regular exercise, as well, which ultimately leads to healthy weight loss. By combining lipotropic injections with a healthy diet and regular exercise you will definitely see phenomenal results in a short period of time.
